Blackberry Margarita Recipe

Blackberries are my all-time favorite berry. Now that they’re in season, I’m giddily adding them to everything—even my margaritas!

Blackberry Margarita

These richly colored berries make a gorgeous summer cocktail. They have only the slightest kiss of sweetness, which makes them even more refreshing.

I’ve added a splash of orange simple syrup, which I get from making candied orange peels in winter at the peak of orange season, and then store in the fridge to add to iced tea and margaritas all summer long. You can substitute plain simple syrup.

My favorite margaritas use quality tequila and real lime juice.

Blackberry Margarita Recipe
1/3 cup each:
– Patron silver tequila 100% agave
– Cointreau
– Freshly squeezed lime juice
– Blackberry juice*
1 Tablespoon orange simple syrup or plain simple syrup

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice. Shake well. Pour into two cocktail glasses filled with ice and garnished with a lime wedge.

*To make the blackberry juice above, you’ll need a full cup of fresh blackberries. You can either smash them in a mortal with a pestle or pulse them in your blender. Either method results in a thick mush, which you’ll need to strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to leave the seeds behind and extract the juice.

It’s not quite blackberry season here, but this looks like a recipe I’ll definitely want to try in a month or so!

I will just have to come back to Seattle again when the season ends here! 🙂
